MG Motor India has revealed the name of its upcoming electric car- Comet. Here are 10 things to know about this EV.

01

MG will launch the Wuling Air EV, available in many global markets, as the MG Comet in India.

02

The name pays homage to the iconic 1934 British airplane that won the England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race. Most MG model names come from aviation- Hector and Gloster are also named after WW2 air planes.

03

MG Comet EV will be the smallest four-wheeler on sale in India, just 2.9m long. But the skateboard platform will give it ample space inside.

04

The exterior looks identical to the Wuling Air EV, featuring a two-tone front fascia, tall and stubby nose, small wheels pushed to the edges, and a boxy shape.

05

It will come with a dual-screen set-up comprising two 10.25-inch screens, connected car tech, dual-tone interiors, voice commands, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and there could possibly be a sunroof as well.

06

MG Comet EV is expected to be powered by a 20-25kWh battery pack, locally sourced from Tata AutoComp, and could even offer a driving range of up to 300km.

07

This MG electric car will be powered by a single, front-axle mounted electric motor producing around 50kW (68hp).

08

It will be assembled in India and will have over 60 percent localisation gone into it.

09

MG Comet is expected to hit the Indian market in mid-2023 and will compete with Tata Tiago EV and Citroen eC3 here.

10

The Comet EV will be positioned as a premium intra-city runabout, and could be priced around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
