2021 Audi Q5 Local Production Begins In India, Launch In November

Audi Q5 facelift will have major changes to its design and powertrain

Audi India has started commencing the local assembly of the 2021 Q5 at its Aurangabad facility (SAVWIPL). The facelift is hoped to launch in India this November. The Q5 that was on sale here was discontinued last year, during the BS6 transition. It will compete with the likes of Mercedes Benz GLC, Land Rover Discovery Sport, BMW X3, and Volvo XC60 upon launch.

The Changes:

The Q5 facelift was originally revealed in June 2020, with a host of changes gone into it. The car has a thoroughly reworked exterior styling, more equipment on offer, and a 2.0L TFSI petrol engine mated to 7 speed S Tronic transmission. The SUV will have Quattro AWD system on offer too. It remains to be seen as to how many of these changes would be on offer on the India-spec though.

The overall design has become sharper and more dynamic on the new Q5. Major exterior highlights include a stylish prominent front grille with vertical slats, reworked bumpers, new digital OLED tail lamps, and LED headlamps as standard. Audi might also offer MATRIX LED headlamps on the Q5, though we are yet to have an official word on it.

2021 Audi Q5 will have more features and equipment on offer. The SUV will come with a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that offers considerably better response and faster interface and comes with Amazon Alexa integration and MyAudi app connectivity. The new car ditches the central control system on the transmission tunnel and gets just the steering-mounted controls. The global-spec car also gets a number of advanced driver aids, many of which are expected to be shaved off as it is brought to India.

Powertrain:

In keeping with VW group’s petrol-only policy, the new Q5 will ditch the diesel and come with the 2.0 TFSI turbo-petrol alone. This powerhouse will be capable of producing 245hp and 370Nm and will come mated to a 7 speed S Tronic dual-clutch transmission.
