Tata goes for an early strike at the electric CV space with Ace electric.
The commercial EV space in India has a number of 2-wheeler and 3-wheeler offerings from multiple startups. Tata Motors has just upped the game by launching the Ace EV. Tata Ace has been a hugely successful CV nameplate for Tata Motors. It is currently available with petrol, diesel, and CNG powertrains. The Ace electric joins this league, targeting primarily inter-city logistics. The prices of this electric mini truck would be out when the deliveries begin.
Tata Ace Electric: What Is It?
In its overall design, Tata Ace EV resembles its ICE counterparts. The only differentiation would be the prominent EV branding. The manufacturer had showcased a fully covered cargo cabin version at the launch. The Ace electric would have multiple modern-day features on offer. A reverse parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring, digital instrument cluster, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, etc are all on the list. The vehicle gets a rotary drive selector similar to what we had previously seen on the Nexon EV and Tigor electric.

Courtesy of its compact dimensions and short turning radius, the Ace EV would be great for intra-city runs. It is also the first vehicle to feature Tata’s new-gen EVOGEN powertrain technology. A range of over 154 kilometres per charge, remains the key catch of this powertrain comprising a 21.3 kWh Lithium-ion Iron Phosphate battery pack and 27kW AC Induction motor. The net output amounts to 36 hp and 130 Nm. There is also an effective regenerative braking mechanism onboard, that springs into action while braking, coasting, and during downhill runs, to ensure maximum range. The powertrain supports both regular and fast charging for maximum uptime. Ace EV has a peak cargo volume of 208 cubic feet and a gradeability of up to 22%.

Tata Ace EV: Prospects And Strategies For The Time Ahead
B2B and B2C logistics sectors possess high possibilities for e-mobility solutions. We have been seeing companies like Delta Autocorp, Omega Seiki, and Mahindra capitalize heavily on these opportunities. With the Ace EV, Tata Motors is now clearly in the game with an obvious upper hand. They sure have decent EV tech, courtesy of the experience gained from the Nexon and Tigor EVs, and huge acceptance in the CV space. Combining these, the manufacturer could leverage the maximum prospects of the commercial e-mobility market. Considering the fact that commercial vehicles contribute the most to pollution today, the government also has a strong push for EVs in commercial mobility, which would further benefit OEMs to come up with good products in the time ahead.
Tata Motors has already entered into deals with e-commerce and logistics majors like Amazon, BigBasket, City Link, DOT, Flipkart, LetsTransport, MoEVing, and Yelo EV to supply 39,000 units of the electric Ace. The OEM would also set up more support points and deploy Fleet Edge connected mobility solutions on these vehicles.
