The fifth generation Honda City gets a new 1.5L petrol engine for 2020
Honda city, the name has been around in the Indian market for over 2 decades now. Right from the first-gen Honda city has had a dedicated fanbase due to its design and engine. The predecessor, The 4th generation city had turned the tables for Honda in India with the introduction of a diesel variant.
The fifth generation of the long-running name has a lot to offer for this year. Diminishing demand for sedans in the market has forced many manufacturers to switch their engineering to SUVs and other iterations, but honda cars were careful to throw in everything that makes the 2020 city unique and makes a buyer think again. The 5th gen City will go on sale in India on July 15, 2020.
The present variant exhibits significant engineering changes, which translates that it is not a simple update of the previous version. The size of the car has increased along with safety, sound insulation, and features. All new City has to offer unique features to offer for the audience, which the maker claims is “first in the segment”. We agree to their claims as the car features a full LED headlamp (9 LED array in-line shell) with an integrated DRL and turn signals, Alexa voice assistant integration, Lane watch camera, 17.7cm full-color TFT MID display with a G-meter and more.
The new 1.5L BS-6 petrol engine now features DOHC set up, produces 119.3 bhp @ 6600rpm, 145 Nm torque @ 4300 rpm which is available in 6-speed manual and a 7-speed CVT gearbox. Honda claims this engine to be more efficient and tractable. However, the diesel engine of the new car is a BS6 compliant engine from the previous generation, producing 100 bhp and 200 nm torque, which will be only available with a 6-speed manual transmission. The lack of a CVT transmission for the diesel engine is due to the lack of demand in India.
Honda is expected to price the new cars starting from 10.2 lakhs ex-showroom. This pricing strategy has made the city an option to consider for people shopping for comfortable and reliable and feature-packed sedans.
