Months of anticipation have come to a fruitful close. Here’s the all new Defender
Land Rover has finally launched the new Defender in India. Available in two distinct guises- the 90 and the 110, the new Defender bears a base price tag of INR 73.98 lakh for the 90 bodystyle. This is the first time that the marque has brought the Defender nameplate for sale in the country.
The Defender 90 is a three-door, short-wheelbase version that has exceptional off-roading capabilities. It gets a folding fabric roof that transforms into a sliding panoramic roof in the 5-door 110. Both the vehicles have the classic Land Rover silhouette and modern-day features like Matrix LED headlamps, 3D surround camera, and a well laid-out cabin. The Defender is essentially the toughest and the most capable SUV that the maker has ever designed. It has phenomenal approach, departure and ramp over angles and a wading depth of 900mm!
Built on the advanced D7x monocoque chassis, both the Defender 90 and 110 are powered by a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, capable of putting out 300 PS and 400 Nm. The vehicle also gets a configurable Terrain Response system and electronic Active differential as well. Also on offer is an adjustable air suspension that proves to be of great use on terrains.
On the pricing front, LR has played its cards well. The 90 Bodystyle starts at INR 73.98 lakh, while the 5-door 110 bodystyle bears a base price tag of INR 79.94 lakh. The deliveries of the Defender 110 would start right away while those of the 90 would begin on a later date, courtesy to the pandemic related chaos. Land Rover is also offering a wide range of accessories and lifestyle equipment with the all new Defender.
