Official Announcement
The Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar confirmed on March 4 that the 19.1 km Yellow Line will be ready for public use by May this year. His announcement came during a state assembly session when a member asked about the project. The project was originally slated to open in December 2021, when several delays pushed the date forward.

Challenges Faced
The Yellow Line has faced many challenges. One of the main issues was a shortage of metro trains. Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) said that they had difficulties getting enough rolling stock. At first, the line will run with three trains every 30 minutes. The plan is to add a fourth train later.
Trial runs started on March 7, 2024. In February this year, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (South Circle), AM Chowdhary, inspected two trains. One was imported from China. The other was assembled in India by Titagarh Rail Systems.
Updates on the Pink Line
The government also provided an update on the Pink Line. It is 21.2 km long and will run from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara. The elevated section of 7.5 km is expected to open by December 2025. The underground section of 13.7 km should be completed by December 2026.
Coach Procurement Issues
The contract for 216 metro coaches was given to CRRC Nanjing Puzhen in December 2019. The delivery was planned for 173 weeks. Many factors caused delays. The border standoff with China in June 2020 made things harder. The COVID-19 pandemic and trade restrictions also slowed down the process. CRRC partnered with Titagarh Rail Systems from Kolkata to help meet local requirements.
How Could The Yellow Line Affect Life In Bengaluru?
The new Yellow Line will boost Bengaluru’s public transport system. It will help reduce traffic and improve air quality in the city. Once the Yellow Line is operational, it will be a major step toward a modern and efficient metro network. This project is a big milestone for Bengaluru as it moves toward a cleaner, greener future.
