Up Close With BMW CE 04 Electric Scooter

BMW Motorrad is gearing up to launch the BMW CE 04 electric scooter in India. While the vehicle is still undergoing homologation for India, we take a closer look at the Euro-spec EV, at Joytown Bangalore. While the overall design and most of the features could remain untouched, the India-spec EV could differ slightly in its powertrain specifications.

For now let’s dive into the details of this particular unit – a spec that is currently on sale in multiple global markets. The CE 04 is an electric scooter which is meant to be BMW’s statement in sustainable urban mobility. The e-scooter gets a futuristic design, with innovative connectivity techs and features. It is the production guise of the manufacturer’s highly acclaimed concept link’ vision, and borrows heavily from it in design.

The futuristic and stylish design is the main highlight of the CE 04. It comes with a sleek-looking front apron, large stylish side panels, a neat headlamp unit in which Adaptive Headlight Pro is installed as standard. The single-section seat looks retro. The CE 04 comes in two different colour ways- light white with matt black shades and the Avant Garde Style trim with a Magellan Grey metallic colour, with black/orange seat and an orange wind deflector. Storage compartments are seen on the sides as well as the front, along with a ventilated mobile charging space. A 10.25-inch high-resolution TFT instrument cluster is offered, with integrated navigation and smartphone connectivity.

Underpinned by a tubular steel frame, the CE 04 draws its juice from a permanent magnet motor, mated to an 8.9kWh Li-Io battery. The motor sits between the battery and the rear wheel and the vehicle comes with belt drive. The powertrain on the global CE 04 produces 42 hp and 62Nm. Zero to 50kph in done in 2.6 seconds and the top speed is 120kmph. BMW claims a proven range of 130 km in a single charge. A full recharge can be done in 4 hours and 20 minutes over a 2.3 kW charger. The same can be done in 1 hour and 40 minutes on a 6.9 kW fast charger.

The BMW electric scooter comes with three riding modes as standard – Eco, Road, and Rain. it can further be specced with tech like Dynamic ride modes, ABS Pro, and dynamic traction control, in global markets.
