The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a warning to IndiGo Airlines after finding issues in how the airline handled dangerous goods. The problem came to light after a cargo spillage incident earlier this year. No fine has been imposed, but the airline has been asked to fix the issue and report back.

Why DGCA Warned IndiGo
The incident took place in January 2026, when a cargo spillage was found after an IndiGo flight landed. This led to a detailed audit by the DGCA. During this, the regulator found that some standard procedures were not followed. These were linked to the handling of company material classified as dangerous goods and carried on the airline’s own aircraft.
The regulator noted that the airline had not fully followed standard operating procedures. There were also breaches under the Aircraft (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) Rules, 2026.
DGCA Orders Training Overhaul
Based on the findings, the DGCA has asked IndiGo to improve its training systems. The airline must now revise its programmes to include more practical exercises and real-world operational scenarios.
The regulator has also directed IndiGo to conduct repeat training for all staff involved in handling dangerous goods, especially those dealing with Company Material (COMAT) at Delhi airport.
The DGCA has asked the airline to strengthen its Continuous Competency Assessment (CCA) system. This step is aimed at ensuring that staff maintain the required skill levels over time.
IndiGo must submit a detailed action taken report within 30 days, explaining the corrective steps it has implemented.
No Operational Or Financial Impact
InterGlobe Aviation, IndiGo’s parent company, said the warning letter was received on July 8. It also clarified that no penalty or restriction has been imposed on the airline. There will be no impact on its financial position, operations, or other business activities.
The company also reported a delay in informing stock exchanges about the warning. It said this was due to an internal communication gap and was not intentional.
