Hyundai i20 N Line Unveiled With Major Visual Upgrades And A Reworked Suspension

The official TVC promises breath-taking handling for the Hyundai i20 N Line

Hyundai India is bringing its ‘N line’ cars to India and has now officially unveiled the first N Line model here- meet the Hyundai i20 N Line! The i20 NLine will officially go on sale this September and be available in 188 ‘Signature’ dealerships of the Korean giant. Bookings, by the way, are now open online and at the dealerships as well. The N Line spec i20 is essentially a sportier iteration of the outgoing car. Diving further deep, the i20 N Line gets more cosmetic upgrades than mechanical changes!

Hyundai i20 N Line: What’s It?

The i20 N Line builds on the higher trims of the regular car. i20 has been a hugely popular car in the domestic market, since its debut here. The hatchback had got a generation upgrade last year, whereby a new set of engines and transmissions had made their premieres on the nameplate. (We had driven the 1.5 diesel variant in detail, read the detailed review).

The i20 N Line would have 3 different variants on offer- N6 iMT, N8 iMT, and N8 DCT. The N6 is built on the Sportz trim of the regular car, while the N8 would have kit levels of the Asta trim.

What’s New?

Think of the N Line as a visually pumped-up i20! It gets a plethora of carefully curated visual upgrades that render a racy feel to it. The color palette has been revised. It now consists of Fiery Red with Black Roof, Thunder Blue, Fiery Red, Titan Grey, Thunder Blue with Black Roof, and Polar White. Multiple Red accents on the exterior might remind you of the Hyundai WRC cars.

The key design deviations on the i20 N Line include new bumpers, a new chequered flag-inspired grille with N Line motif, more aggressive bonnet lines, bigger 17-inch two-tone, diamond cut wheels, four-disc brakes with Red calipers, dual exhaust pipes, and a faux diffuser.

The cabin gets a bunch of cosmetic tweaks like Athletic Red accents at multiple places inside the Black cabin, chequered Flag design and N logo on the leather seats, Red ambient lighting, Sporty metal pedals, an all-new iMT gear knob with N logo, reworked knob for the DCT, paddle shifters, and a 3 spoke sporty steering wheel. The touchscreen infotainment system also has its software slightly updated.

Mechanical Changes

While the regular hatchback gets offered with naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5 diesel, and 1.0L turbo petrol engines, it is just the turbo petrol that has made its way to the N Line. This engine produces the same 120PS and 172 Nm on the N Line as well. Both the iMT and 7-speed DCT gearboxes are available. The DCT gets paddle shifters and Hyundai claims the iMT to have been fine-tuned to offer sportier shifts. The car also has a new exhaust in place, to render a more-enthralling soundtrack.

The key mechanical change, however, is the reworked suspension. Hyundai claims to have made the suspension stiffer and more confidence-inspiring. Thus, the i20 N Line is claimed to offer class-leading ride and handling. The high-speed stability is hoped to have improved as well. With four disc brakes, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Assist, and Vehicle Stability Management in place, the overall road manners of the N Line spec should have had major leaps ahead.

The official TVC released by Hyundai India clearly demonstrates the handling prowess of the i20 N Line. The film shows the car tackling the Gata Loops in Ladakh. Watch it below.
