Jeep To Launch New Compass Trailhawk And Meridian By Mid-2022

Don’t be confused, Meridian would be the name for 7 seater Jeep Compass!

Stellantis-owned Jeep is eyeing to launch two new products in India, in 2022. The new Jeep Compass Trailhawk and the 7 seater version of the Compass, known as Jeep Grand Commander in many foreign markets will launch soon in India, the latter however would be called ‘Jeep Meridian’ here for obvious reasons.

The launch of Compass Trailhawk is expected in February 2022, while the production of Meridian will begin in April 2022, at the company’s Ranjangaon facility.

2022 Jeep Compass Trailhawk: What To Expect?

Jeep had recently overhauled the Compass Trailhawk, and the same would be coming to India as well. The new model will feature all-new LED headlamps, reworked front and rear bumpers for better approach and departure angles, new diamond-cut alloy wheels, new body decals, blacked-out pillars, and a Sporty red window beltline. The SUV will have multiple 4×4 and Trailhawk badges.

While the overall design and layout of the cabin would remain unchanged, the new Compass Trailhawk will get a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that would support voice commands, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Other features expected are a sportier steering wheel, ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, and connected car tech.

Under the hood, the Jeep Compass Trailhawk will be powered by the same 2.0-liter Multijet diesel engine as before. The company will also retain the 9-speed automatic gearbox. The powertrain would produce 170BHP and 350Nm, and the vehicle will feature an Activ Drive 4×4, Rock mode, and hill descent control as well.

Jeep Meridian (Grand Commander) : What To Expect?

Long story short, the Meridian is what the 7 seater Jeep Compass would be called in India. The 3-row compass is already on sale in multiple global markets like Brazil, under the name ‘Grand Commander’. The same is hoped to come to India with minimal changes gone into it. Reports suggest that the launch is planned for mid-2022, and the vehicle will be manufactured locally for exports as well.

Jeep Meridian is expected to feature the same powertrain as the regular Compass, meaning the 2.0L diesel engine would find its place on the Meridian as well. However, Jeep might electrify this engine by giving it a 48V mild-hybrid system for better efficiency on the 7 seater Compass. The global car has an output of 173 hp and 200 Nm, with the 9-speed automatic transmission onboard.

Upon launch, Jeep Meridian will put up a strong fight against popular 3 row SUVs like Toyota Fortuner and the recently launched Skoda Kodiaq.
