Maruti Suzuki Jimny To Hit The Showrooms By January 2021.

Maruti Suzuki finally pulls the cover off the Jimny SUV in India. The company has started assembling the Jimny in India and will be launched next year.

The best news to hear today, yes and finally Maruti Suzuki has begun assembling the three-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny in India. Initially, the company will produce 50 units of the SUV at its Gurugram facility with the CKD kits inported from Japan and the first batch of cars will then be showcased at the Nexa showrooms across the country.

The Jimny holds a huge fan-base across the globe, for being a very capable offroader. Although the specifications donot seem out of the world on paper this little SUV really does magic in real-world scenarios.

Looking back in time, the first-ever Jimny was launched in 1970, which was a huge success for Suzuki, globally lending it name recognition. Yes! The Jimny is time tested. The second-generation Jimny was launched in 1981, the legendary Gypsy we got here is the long wheelbase version of the second generation Jimny. I guess, now we are more clear on why Jimny is so much loved. Later, in 1998 the third generation came out with more modern looks and features. And the Jimny in question here is the fourth generation that was launched in 2018, in the international markets.

The Jimny features a body on frame structure like the Gypsy and the Mahindra Thar. The SUV is equipped with the same K15B engine seen in the Brezza, Ertiga, XL-6, and Ciaz, but mounted longitudinally. The 1.5L NA petrol engine producing 105hp and 138Nm of torque is mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed torque converter sending power to either the rear wheels or to all four of them. The Jimny gets a four wheel drive system with low range as standard.

Earlier Maruti was planning to bring in the five-door version of the SUV, especially for India. But now in the light of the victory of the Mahindra Thar, new information indicates that the company is studying the feasibility of the three-door version in India. The three-door Jimny will reach the Nexa dealerships by January and Maruti is concerned to know whether they could sell the same here without having to invest in the R&D to engineer a 5-door version.
