2020 Maybach GLS Revealed: 3 Things To Know About The Mercedes-Benz GLS In Maybach Suit !

The Maybach GLS becomes the next BIG SUV to be in the Maybach suit after the mighty G650 Landaulet. Here are the top 3 things you should know about it …

Though with stuff like the G650 Landaulet out on sale in the past, Mercedes-Maybach used to be known for the ultra-luxury sedans that they made till recent times. But things seem to be heading for a turn now, as the German carmaker’s luxury wing reveals the Maybach GLS at Guangzhou, thereby adding one more ultra-luxury SUV to their lineup. The best part now is that the Mercedes-Maybach GLS won’t be a limited run model like the G and will stay in the brand’s portfolio for long. We will now tell you 3 things you would want to know about this car.

  • It’s a Cross!

Yes but no, is what we would say! It is indeed a crossbreed of a ultra-luxe saloon and a brawny SUV, when it comes to the cabin space and luxury. But talk about the body design and technical knick-knacks and you will all agree it to be a thorough-bred SUV. It indeed has all the brawn and butch looks of the regular GLS, all but with a touch of luxury, weighing tonnes!

We used to call the Mercedes Benz GLS, the S class of SUVs, but this right here, should then be but the Maybach of SUVs. It gets all familiar design cues characteristic to a standard Mercedes-Maybach. From the multibeam headlamps upfront to the flamboyant looking ‘Maybach’ radiator grille with an array of vertical chrome pinstripes, profound generosity in the usage of chrome, the epic looking tail lamps and the finely woven air dams, the design breathes pomp!

  • You Don’t Ride, But Float!

FLOAT is what you would want to call the ‘ride experience’ that the Mercedes-Maybach GLS would bestow on you. The Maybach GLS gets super-interesting tech and a suspension setup that ensures best in class ride quality and damping. Suspension duties are handled by a double-wishbone setup upfront and a four-link mechanism at the rear. Essentially a highly reworked version of the one found in the regular Mercedes-Benz GLS, this AIRMATIC unit hosts stuff like Adaptive Damping System Plus (ADS+) as standard alongside an optional Active Body Control mechanism. What these result in is a world-class ride experience to all the occupants inside.

All these tend to go pretty hand in hand with the mighty 558 hp (410 kW) V8, that has been specially developed for the Maybach and is good to let out a healthy 539 lb-ft of torque. The V8 comes coupled with a 48 volt EQ boost mechanism as well. Thus guaranteed is a drive as much exciting as the ride.

  • You Are In The Lap Of Luxury!

A pronounced air of world-class Luxury fills the cabin of the Maybach GLS. Mercedes-Benz has taken special care to so mould their flagship SUV as to suit the Mercedes-Maybach standards. The outer rear seats can be electrically converted into reclining lounges. There is generous use of premium Nappa leather inside the cabin. Lotsa other luxe bits are also on offer, like the optional fixed centre console with a bunch of amenities including a refrigerator and optional silver champagne flutes. There is even a dedicated fragrance that has been specially developed for the Maybach GLS.

The time suggests an era of a grave war between the ultra-luxury SUVs. The Maybach GLS will have to rival the likes of Bentley Bentayga, and Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Also, time remains to see if the upcoming Aston Martin DBX (Or even the Lamborghini Urus?) would pose a threat too (Somehow we hope them to not do so, owing to their focus on speed)… Fingers crossed, for now we leave you with this video here…
