Production-Spec Mahindra Global Pik Up Could Be Called Scorpio X

The Scorpio lineup continues to expand…

The production version of Mahindra Global Pik Up Concept could be given the name ‘Scorpio X’, upon launch. The company recently trademarked this name for an upcoming pickup truck. There is every reason to suspect this moniker to be for the production guise of Global Pik Up.

Mahindra unveiled the ‘Global Pik Up concept’ (codenamed Z121) in South Africa last year. Key styling cues hinted at it to be based on the Scorpio N. The brand also revealed that the production form will be a global product and will aggressively compete with the likes of Toyota Hilux.

It is no secret now that the Scorpio range is expanding. It now has the Scorpio Classic, Scorpio N and more variants and configurations are being added to the latter. This lineup is expected to get more additions including the pickup in the upcoming years.

The Scorpio X (or the production form of the Global Pik Up concept as we assume it to be) will get Mahindra’s Gen 2 mHawk diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual and AISIN-sourced automatic transmissions. It will also be underpinned by a new, upgraded ladder frame chassis, that is claimed to be tougher and more versatile. The truck will have a 4WD with ‘shift on the fly’ and selectable terrain modes.
