Renault and Nissan recorded positive trends in monthly sales last month
Renault and Nissan have disclosed the sales numbers for January 2022. Renault India saw a 1% drop in sales compared to 2021, while Nissan ended the month on a positive note, with a 6% hike in sales. Both the brands have significantly improved their month-on-month numbers.
Renault India Sales | January 2022
Renault sold 8,119 units in January 2022 against 8,209 in the same period last year. The M-o-M figures saw a 32% jump up, with 6,130 units sold in December 2021.
The driving force behind Renault’s M-o-M growth is its Compact SUV Kiger which was launched in 2021. Kiger, rated four-star by Global NCAP, sold 3,053 units in January 2022, marking a 44% increase from December 2021, when it had sold 2,117 units.
Renault had announced a price-hike for the SUV, with effect from January 2022, whereby the prices went up by Rs 14,000- 29,000.

Renault’s three-row MPV Renault Triber came second in sales, with 2,722 dispatches last month. On Y-o-Y basis, however, it lost 33.32%. Renault Kwid lost 38% in YoY numbers with 2,344 units sold against the 3,791 of 2021. It, however, exhibited a stunning 122% growth in MoM sales.
Renault Duster has been slow-selling in recent times, and the numbers drooped to 0 in January 2022. The SUV had sold 56 units in December 2021 before plummeting to null last month. Renault has now officially ended the Duster’s production here. It is readying a facelift to the popular moniker, that is expected to launch sometime next year. These combined translated to a 6% slide in overall MoM numbers.
Nissan India Sales | Jan 2022
Nissan sold 4,250 units in January 2022 against the 4,021 units in January 2021. The positive YoY growth of 26% was greatly catalyzed by the Magnite, which sold 3,827 units. The MoM figures saw a jump of 44%. Datsun Redi-GO came second selling 273 units in January, meaning 65% of YoY de-growth. However, it was able to sell 46 units more than December 2021.

Nissan Kicks sales remained unchanged in January 2021 and 2022, and the M-o-M numbers saw a 15% growth, with 150 units sold in January 2022 from 130 in December 2021. Sub-brand Datsun is no longer selling the GO+ and GO in India.
