The River Indie electric scooter costs Rs. 1,25,000 (ex-showroom) and will start deliveries in August
After Ultraviolette Automotive, another Bangalore-based EV startup, River Mobility, is entering the game by introducing their all new model, ‘Indie’ at a price of Rs. 1.25 lakhs. River electric scooter was developed at their research facility in Whitefield and will be put under series production in their 120,000 sq. ft. Hoskote plant, which is capable of producing up to 100,000 units per year.
River Electric Scooter Design Overview
The River Indie EV is a large and unique scooter in terms of design and features. The twin beam LED headlamps impart a futuristic look to the scooter. The tail lamp is a big-curved rectangular unit. The design supports utility. This electric scooter comes with 43L storage under the seat (more than enough to store 2 helmets) and another 12L storage space in the front glove box. It also gets alloy clip-on handlebars for relaxed posture and better handling. Built-in safeguards on either sides of the front apron act as crash-guards in the event of a fall. There are also lock and load pannier mounts on both sides, alloy front foot-pegs, etc. on offer.
Variants, Colours And Dimensions
River electric scooter is available in two variants : Utility and Lifestyle. The manufacturer offers three dual tone colour schemes for the Indie – Monsoon Blue, Spring yellow and Summer Red, all of them set against a matt black body.
The River scooter rides on 14 inch alloy wheels and gets telescopic front suspension for precise handling. The rear gets a twin hydraulic setup. The seat is pretty wide and shaped ergonomically for comfortable rides. The floor bed is 20 inch wide, suitable for traveling with more carriables. It also has 165mm of ground clearance. It is probably because of these that the River calls the Indie ‘the SUV of electric scooters’.
The Indie is IP67 rated – water proof and dust proof battery, motor and motor controller. The company also offers 5 years of warranty for both the motor and the battery for worry-free rides. River also claims that they’ve tested the scooter for more than 1,00,000km under harsh weather and road conditions for safety and durability.
Powertrain
When it comes to the power figures, the Indie is powered by a 4kWh battery pack, which claims a real-world range of 120km. The motor produced a peak power of 6.7 kW (9bhp) and 25Nm of max. torque. The electric scooter has a maximum speed of 90kmph and can accelerate from zero to 40kmph in 3.9 seconds. The battery can be charged up to 80 percent in 5 hours while using a standard charger. It gets three riding modes – eco, ride and rush. It also offers a gradeability of 18 degrees for easy climbing on elevations. A TFT colour display, two USB ports and reverse parking assist are also added for added convenience.
