Here’s another drool-worthy big bike from RE!
EICMA 2022 is on the roll and Royal Enfield has commenced a hot-shot global premiere. The highly anticipated Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 has been unveiled in two striking avatars- Standard and Tourer, and the details could simply give you goosebumps! Yes, a lot of it could sound familiar, as the same had been leaked ahead of the official debut.
Super Meteor 650 Variants: Standard And Tourer
Originally pitched as a replacement for the RE Thunderbird, Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is a popular mid-size cruiser in RE’s modern-day portfolio. The 650 pushes this a step further and becomes the manufacturer’s brawny flagship cruiser. It is envisioned as a pure, thoroughbred cruiser bike with a low stance, designed for long, relaxed rides. The motorcycle is available in two distinct guises- the Standard, a solo tourer, and the Super Meteor 650 Tourer- a full-blown grand tourer!
Design
The Super Meteor 650 gets a thoroughbred cruiser design. It looks butch and fairly intimidating. This motorcycle looks just like the big Brit cruiser stereotype that you’d never stop drooling over. It rides on 19-inch front wheels and fat 16 inches at the rear, both shod with grippy CEAT Zoom Cruz tubeless rubber. It gets a powerful all-LED headlamp setup- a first on any RE yet.
The large 15.7-litre tank gets the familiar tear-drop shape and ensures ample range for its cruiser persona. The split seat setup comprises of a large, comfortable saddle and a fair-sized rear seat. The tail lamp looks neat and minimal and the rear section as a whole looks clean! The brake lamp sits on the rear fender while the turn signal lamps are mounted near the number plate. Also, the exhaust pipes look sleeker and are better packed than what they are in the other 650s.
Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 Colours: The Super Meteor is available in a total of 7 distinct colourways. The Standard RE Super Meteor 650 (solo tourer) comes in five shades- Astral Black, Astral Blue, Astral Green, Interstellar Grey and Interstellar Green. The Super Meteor 650 Tourer is available in two exciting shades- Celestial Red and Celestial Blue!
Features
Royal Enfield has given the Super Meteor premium fit, finish and plastic quality, and features on offer include a familiar analogue-digital instrument cluster with an integrated Tripper Navigation pod and modern-day cast Aluminium switch cubes, and dual channel ABS.
Specifications: Chassis And Engine
Royal Enfield has built the Super Meteor 650 on a newly developed chassis and borrowed the proven parallel-twin powertrain from the existing 650 twins- the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. Harris Performance has worked together with RE to ensure the best possible dynamics on this motorcycle. Befitting its cruiser genes, the Super Meteor gets a highly raked (relaxed) steering angle, an extremely low seat height of 740 mm, a long wheelbase, pulled back handlebar, forward-set footpegs, and for the first time on a Royal Enfield, 43mm Showa USDs at the front. The braking is handled by massive 320mm discs at the front and 300mm units at the rear. These have been set in a way to ensure more reassuring, confident braking for the rear wheels. The Super Meteor, however, would stun you with its weight. At 241 kilograms, it is the heaviest of all Royal Enfields on sale today! Another possible bummer would be the low ground clearance of 135mm.
The 650 cc, air and oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine produces 47hp and 52Nm, figures that are very similar to the other 650s. However, the peak torque here comes a tad late due to the different maps and gearing. However, the tug starts early, with 80% of it arriving at around 2500 rpms, something that would contribute greatly to the overall character of the motorcycle.
Accessories And Mods Available
Royal Enfield has announced a long list of accessories and enhancements for the Super Meteor, under their GMA program. The Standard motorcycle can be specced with bar end mirrors, deluxe footpeg, solo finisher, LED indicators and machined wheels. The flagship Super Meteor Grand Tourer can be equipped with deluxe touring dual-seat, touring windscreen, passenger backrest, deluxe footpegs, long-haul panniers, touring handlebar and LED indicators.
Launch Dates, Expected Price And India Debut
RE says that the Super Meteor would reach its owners in the UK by Spring 2023. The India debut is expected to happen in Goa, at the Royal Enfield Rider Mania later this month. From how the current 650s are priced, we expect the Super Meteor 650 prices to be in the 3.5- 4 lakh bracket.
