Tata Curvv EV Concept Revealed, Launch In 2024

Tata Curvv will premiere as an EV and will spawn an ICE counterpart later

Tata Motors has unveiled its new EV concept, hinting at the design direction of future Tata SUVs. Named Tata Curvv, the SUV coupe concept looks sleek and futuristic. It gets a neat, edgy, and sporty design and is underpinned by Tata’s Gen 2 architecture (which is essentially a highly reworked version of the regular ICE platform). The concept’s ‘Less is more’ design philosophy could be propagated across Tata’s future portfolio as well.

Production-spec Curvv will be launched as an EV initially, but an ICE counterpart would join later. In terms of its size, the CURVV will stand somewhere in between the mid-SUV and high-SUV classes. Thus, upon its launch, the production-spec CURVV could be placed between the Nexon and Harrier. The manufacturer has confirmed to launch the production form by 2024.

The concept’s interior has immense attention to detail in its design. It features the use of premium trims, textures, and materials. There are all familiar features on offer like a large panoramic sunroof and high-quality displays for infotainment and instrumentation. The steering wheel gets a new signature two-spoke design, which is known to premiere on more Tata cars in the time ahead.

Quick Note: While there have been rumors suggesting the same, Tata Motors confirms that Curvv’s production form will not be the extended-range next-gen Nexon EV!

Tata Curvv Will Have An Improved Powertrain!

The Gen 2 architecture is significantly better than the Gen 1 platform of Nexon EV, in its capabilities. Improvements made to this platform allow efficient packaging of larger battery packs. Tata claims the Curvv to have a battery that would guarantee ranges of 400-500 kilometers. It would have significant improvements in AC and DC charging speeds as well.

The Gen 2 architecture is capable of accomodating up to 2 motors. However, Curvv will have just one electric motor and thus a conventional front-wheel-drive layout on offer. An AWD could debut in the future depending on the market demands for the same.

Tata’s EV Plans:

Tata Motors is looking to capitalize on the immense acceptance that the Nexon EV and Tigor EV have been having in the country and has plans to launch as many as 10 new EVs by 2025. Tata’s EV portfolio would by 2025, be a mix of vehicles built on Gen 1, Gen 2, and Gen 3 EV architectures. Gen 3 platforms would be dedicated EV platforms and would not be used in ICE cars. Tata is now actively involved in the development and fine-tuning of these. Meanwhile, there are no plans for hybrid powertrains, confirms the homegrown carmaker.
