The bZ4X is Toyota’s first proper EV, launched in Aug last year
Toyota is showcasing the bZ4X electric compact SUV at the Auto Expo. The manufacturer unveiled the production-spec bZ4X back in October 2021, as the first fully-electric SUV from the Japanese brand.
The name ‘bZ’ is an abbreviation of ‘Beyond Zero’, which is Toyota’s ambitious electrification strategy. The brand targets to launch at least 15 pure-electric vehicles by 2025, including 7 that’ll wear the bZ moniker, under this initiative. The 4X suffix from Toyota represents four-wheel drive electric vehicles.

The bZ4X is the first model to be underpinned by the e-TNGA electric vehicle architecture that they co-developed with Subaru. Short overhang and long wheelbase are the most definitive characteristics of the platform, which enables it to have a “spacious and open cabin”. The bZ4X is offered in two variants – one is a front-wheel drive model with a single motor setup and the other is a 4-wheel drive model with a dual motor setup.
The former produces 204 HP and 265Nm, while the latter is good for 218 HP and 336Nm. The power is drawn from a 71.4 kWh battery pack that offers a WLTP-certified range of around 450km on a single charge. It can charge at speeds of up to 150 kW, which means it can get up to 80 percent charge in 30 minutes.
Will Toyota launch the electric bZ4X in India? Only time could tell you…
