Supply Issues And High Demand; Toyota Suspends Hilux Booking

Toyota temporarily suspends Hilux booking in India owing to huge demand

Nearly two weeks after the launch, Toyota Kirloskar Motors has announced that it has temporarily suspended the bookings for Hilux pickup trucks in India. The manufacturer has cited various factors impacting supply chains and their inability to meet the heightened demand as the reasons for halting the bookings here.

The New Toyota Hilux, the eighth generation of the global nameplate, was introduced in India in January. Though Toyota hasn’t announced the price tag for the 4×4 pickup underpinned on Innova Crysta and Fortuner, pre-bookings were on for Rs. 1 Lakh.

The India-spec Toyota Hilux is powered by a 2.8L four-cylinder turbocharged (GD series) diesel engine borrowed from the Fortuner. It has an output of 204hp and 420 Nm (500Nm for the automatic). It is available with both 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, Hilux is offered as a 4×4 alone, unlike the Fortuner that comes with 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains.

Other notable specifications of the Toyota Hilux include a low-range gearbox, automated limited-slip differential, and front and rear electronic diff locks.
