Toyota Legender 4X4 Launched, Becomes New Range Topper

The inclusion of 4WD is expected to boost the acceptance of Toyota Legender further

Toyota Fortuner has been enjoying stellar acceptance in the country ever since its India debut in 2009. Earlier this year, a mid-life facelift was given to the SUV that is currently in its second gen here. Alongside was launched the Legender, a comfort-oriented iteration of the Fortuner, intended at urban SUV lovers. The Legender had no 4WD at launch.

Toyota has now launched a 4WD iteration of the Legender nameplate. Sitting comfortably as the new range-topper, the Legender 4×4 gets a 4 wheel drive system along with a few additional features. Priced at 42.33 lakh ex-showroom, the Legender 4×4 now pitches itself as a stylish, comfortable, and capable SUV.

Toyota Legender: Key Details

The Legender looks evidently different from the Fortuner. It is more stylish, and sleeker than the popular SUV. Key design highlights include Catamaran style front and rear bumpers, sharper grille design with Piano Black accents, 18-inch multi-layered machine cut alloy wheels, split LED headlamps, blackened roof, etc. The overall design has an evident premium quotient to it.

The cabin experience is significantly different from that of the regular Fortuner. The Legender gets more features, an eye-pleasing layout, and aesthetics inside. The major highlights include contrast stitching for the upholstery, suction-based seat ventilation, wireless charger, handsfree tailgate open function, 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, and an improved infotainment system.

In addition to these, the newly launched Toyota Legender 4×4 gets a new premium audio system from JBL with a total of 11 speakers, delivering superior sound quality.

Engine, Transmission And Other Mechanicals

Much like the 4×2 counterpart, the 4WD-equipped Legender is powered by the same 2.8L diesel engine with 204 hp and 500 Nm on offer. A 6-speed torque converter automatic remains the sole transmission on offer on the 4WD SUV too.

Variants, Prices And Acceptance

The Legender has been a hot-cake for Toyota since its launch. The manufacturer sold over 2700 units of the 4×2 Legender so far in the country. With the new variant in, sales and acceptance are hoped to climb higher. The Legender is now offered in two different variants, differing by the 4WD on offer.

Rivals

With the arch-rival Endeavour out of the game, the Fortuner lineup, and the Legender in particular, does enjoy a fair advantage. The kit levels on offer on the Legender boosts this further. Major competition now comes from the MG Gloster, VW Tiguan AllSpace, and the Mahindra Alturas G4, with the last one being good as dead in driving numbers!
