2020 Toyota Harrier Unveiled In Japan, Looks Fabulous!

The all-new Toyota Harrier gets both petrol and hybrid powertrains and optional all-wheel drive system as well.

Toyota has finally taken the veils off the all-new Toyota Harrier in Japan, even with time still left for its global debut. The official images of the Sport Utility Vehicle are now out and show a thoroughly revamped vehicle. Here is what we know about it now…

The Toyota Harrier is now entering its fourth generation globally. Having seen its global debut in the late 1990s, the Harrier family has been selling good numbers worldwide. The fourth-generation boasts of extensive changes inside out, the most important of which being its migration to the new TNGA platform from the carmaker. The design too gets a nip and tuck therein, which has raised the sportiness quotient quite a bit.

An overall air of sleekness engulfs the new Harrier. There is a pronounced coupe-ish feel throughout its design. The sloping roofline and raked rear windshield signify nothing but the same. The front fascia gets a sleek-looking central grille and all-LED headlamps which host stylish J shaped LED DRLs, similar to the ones seen on the new Toyota Corolla of the global markets. There are air dams which look massive up the front as well. The overall design of the front end looks quite like a Lexus. No wonder, the Lexus RX is based on this global SUV from Toyota!

The profile looks sleek and quite stylish with the receding window line and the slim tail lamps that mark their presence on the sideview too. The rear gets a set of magnificent LED tail lamps and an integrated lightbar (without which would they have looked like more of a Jaguar F Type to me ). There is a spoiler up on the top of the bootlid and a second faux spoiler element near the tail lamp cluster.

The cabin of the new Toyota Harrier sees immense amounts of tweaks in it. There is an all-new dashboard design overall, dominated by a huge 12.3-inch touchscreen unit. There are futuristic touch operable controls for the air conditioning and rather conventional dials for the instrument cluster, making for a weird combo! There are a bunch of other interesting techs onboard the Harrier as well, like the impressive JBL audio system and the large electrochromic panoramic sunroof.

Talking about powertrains, the 2020 Toyota Harrier has two – a 2.0L four-cylinder petrol unit capable of putting out 171hp and a 222hp hybrid unit that clubs a 2.5L petrol engine magnificently with an 88kW electric motor. A CVT box and four-wheel-drive system are being offered on both the powertrains, with the AWD being optional on both. The AWD models would have a separate 40kW electric motor spinning the rear wheels, making for a virtual four-wheel drive.

While the India launch of the Toyota Harrier seems quite unlikely, the carmaker will soon give its popular SUV model in the country, the Fortuner, a special edition. Also, we had reported of the Toyota Fortuner facelift taking shape through a previous post, and are expecting it to launch here in a matter of months as well.
