The Scorpio N becomes the first ladder-frame SUV to score 5 stars

Mahindra Scorpio N scored a 5-star safety rating in the newest Global NCAP crash tests, conducted under the updated safety protocols. The SUV becomes the first ladder-frame offering to achieve this rating. It scored five stars in adult safety and 3 stars in child protection.

The Scorpio-N scored an impressive 29.25 out of 34 in adult occupant safety test, and 28.94 out of 48 in child occupant protection. It also received a score of 16 out of 17 in the side impact test, with a deformable barrier and an OK rating in the side pole impact test, which is done under the new test protocols.

28.93 points (out of 49) scored in the child occupant protection test includes 4.93 points out of 12 for the CRS (Child Restraint System) installation and a maximum dynamic score of 24.

The NCAP tests also prove that the Scorpio-N offers great protection to the occupant’s neck, while only providing marginal protection to the driver’s and passenger’s chest. The results also pointed out the stability of the bodyshell and the footwell. Scorpio-N has become the 3rd SUV from Mahinda to score a 5-star safety rating, after the Mahindra XUV300 and Mahindra XUV700.

However, considering the fact that the Scorpio N was tested under the new protocols, which are stricter than the previous ones. This would make Scorpio N’s 5-star rating rank a notch higher than the XUV 700’s 5-star score. Also, these results force us to rethink the familiar notion of considering body-on-frame SUVs (highly) vulnerable on the safety front- they are not!

The Scorpio N aces it with its spec and performance credentials. Pitched into the D segment, the SUV offers the choice of petrol and diesel powertrains, mated to manual and automatic transmissions. It gets an advanced AWD system offered on higher trims. The Scorpio N has been rising to stellar acceptance, since launch. 25,000 units with their hooking introductory prices were sold out in under a minute. The demand continues to be sky-high and deliveries are delayed…
