A quick look at the global-spec Wuling Air, before it reaches India…
Wuling Motors, a manufacturer based out of Liuzhou, Guangxi, China, is quite known for the electric vehicles it makes. Through the JV with SAIC and General Motors, Wuling is readying to launch one of its all-electric products in India. SAIC-owned MG will launch the Wuling Air under its own brand here, and possibly as the most affordable electric vehicle in India. Sources confirm the MG Air EV to launch in 2023. Here are the top 5 things to know about the global spec Air EV, ahead of its Indian debut.
Design
Wuling Air EV will become the smallest EV in India. The compact EV has a boxy shape and several futuristic design highlights. An LED strip runs across the front and rear of the car. The strip on the front side sits just beneath the windshield, connecting the RVMs on either side. The mirrors double as the turn indicators. The headlights are blacked out, contrasting with the body colour. The back side has an upright rear glass underlined by the LED strip. The body beneath curves right into the rear bumper.
Size
The 2-door, 4-seater car will be the smallest EV in the country. The length of MG Air EV stands at 2974 mm and the width at 1505 mm. It is noticeably smaller and shorter than the current smallest EV in India- Tata Tiago EV. This could actually be the perfect car for the city on a busy weekend.
Powertrain
The Air EV is powered by a 41 PS electric motor which sends power to the rear wheels. The company offers two battery options in the Air EV, in the global market: 17.3kWh and 26.7kWh lithium Ferro-phosphate batteries, offering ranges of up to 200km and 300km respectively.
Features
MG is known for providing the best features for end-users. Wuling Air is no different, globally. The international-spec Air EV is equipped with dual screens- two 10.25-inch Integrated floating wide screens. A rotary gear selector decorated with chrome rings is also present. Users can download the MyWuling+ application on smartphone devices, to enable multiple internet-based connected car features. The Air gets Synthetic leather seats, connected car tech, steering-mounted controls, climate control and more. Dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and a rear parking camera ensure the safety of the occupants of the Air EV.
International Attention
Bagging more global attention, the Air EV recently made a few public appearances that were way too loud. It chauffeured around the delegates at the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, earlier this year. Later in November, the Air was deployed on a similar role at the COP 27 summit in Egypt, when the former prime minister of UK- Boris Johnson made a press-worthy stint with the electric car.
Expected Price
The Air EV is expected to be priced under 10 lakh upon its introduction, making it a direct opponent of the new Tiago EV and possibly rank among the most affordable electric vehicles in India then.
