Toyota Kirloskar Motor has launched the 2022 Toyota Glanza facelift with a slew of major updates over its predecessor. The new car hosts changes on its exterior and inside the cabin as well. But, that is not all. A number of new variants have also joined the portfolio so that more strata of buyers gain access to the Glanza. Let’s dive deeper into these…

Toyota Glanza 2022: Exterior Design Changes

The key change in the new Glanza is in its design. The car has gained more Toyota DNA in its exterior design. It gets a front fascia that now looks like nothing but a Toyota! You might see bits of the now-discontinued Yaris in some areas of the design.

The LED headlamps remain identical to the Baleno’s in their overall designs, but the elements inside have been restyled. While the Baleno gets the 3-block DRL design, the Glanza gets an L-shaped unit. The front grille is now sleek and stylish and would remind you of some modern-day global cars from the manufacturer. We particularly like the judicious use of Chrome on this. The best bit on the restyled front bumper is the large Black insert, which on a closer inspection would reveal itself to have a Carbon Fiber (CF) finish. What a neat way to highlight the sporty, youthful nature of the car!

Except for the slightly different designs of the 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, the silhouette is unchanged from that of the new Baleno. Visual changes are minimal at the rear as well. The tail lamps, much like the headlamp units, get restyled elements inside them. The rear bumper also gets minute design reworks on the new car.

The new Glanza remains identical to the new Baleno in its overall dimensions. It is wider than the previous car and the design as such, reflects this well. On a very personal note, we find the new Glanza to be a lot better-looking than the Maruti Baleno 2022!

Toyota Glanza 2022: Updates To The Cabin

The key change inside the cabin is in the colorway used. While the Baleno gets a cabin finished in the Black-Navy Blue theme, with generous use of Satin Silver accents, Toyota has chosen to go with the more conventional Black-Beige combo with Piano Black replacing the Satin Silver bits- a familiar ‘plush-looking’ design lingo in the Indian context.

The car has improved greatly in build and material qualities from its predecessor. The plastics are now a lot better than what they used to be on the pre-facelift model. The seats- their design and upholsteries are also refreshed.

In terms of equipment, the facelifted Glanza retains almost all of the New Baleno’s features including the segment-leading 360-degree camera and head-up display. The free-standing infotainment screen has been untouched. However, the software seems to have undergone slight fine-tuning. It now uses Toyota’s homegrown connected car system- Toyota i-connect. This gets voice commands that work pretty well in real-life scenarios, along with smartphone and smartwatch connectivities. (Smartwatch integration is not something you would find on the Baleno though!) This system uses Toyota’s servers for staying connected, and functioned quite well during our first-look session.

Engine And Specifications

The engine and mechanical specifications on the new Glanza remain unchanged from those of the new Baleno. It gets the new 1.2L, four-cylinder, K12N Dualjet petrol engine that produces 90 hp and 113 Nm. There is no diesel engine on offer. The CVT gearbox from the previous car now gets replaced by a more-affordable 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox.

2022 Toyota Glanza Variants Explained

Its narrow variant-array was something not many liked about the previous Glanza. The car was then available in just two variants, both based on the upper trims of the Baleno. However, on the 2022 Glanza, Toyota has addressed this issue well by giving it four different trim lines and a total of seven variants. The new Glanza is available in E, S, G, and V trim lines. All of these except the base-spec E offer the option of an automatic transmission as well. There are now more to choose from for a prospective buyer, and the car has also had its reach broadened to more consumer strata.

2022 Toyota Glanza variants explained: variants and features

As obvious, there are a few features that the Glanza (like the Baleno) misses out on, even while being offered by some of its rivals- like a wireless charger, tyre pressure monitor, or cooled glove box. However, with the new variants in, you get Toyota equivalents of the Baleno’s Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha trims for various pocket sizes- quite reassuring news indeed!

To get a better idea of this car, we drove the new Glanza extensively over a few days. Feel free to check out our reviews of the new Glanza MT and Glanza AMT.
