Up to 3 new cars will reach the Indian market including the new Duster
Renault-Nissan has disclosed their future product plan for India and is currently working on introducing up to three new models to the domestic market . In accordance with the previous reports, an investment of almost Rs 4,000 crore(USD 500 million) would support this plan. The upcoming cars from Renault-Nissan alliance would include the new Duster and a Triber based Nissan MPV and an EV.
New Renault Duster
The Duster was definitely a fan favourite for the Indian consumers over its 7 year run here. Launched in 2013, the SUV grabbed massive attention and became the best seller of the brand for years that followed. It was discontinued in 2020. The second generation Duster, which is sold globally, never made it to the Indian market. Renault is currently working on the 3rd generation Duster, which hasn’t been revealed yet. Reports suggest that it could make its way to India in 2025.
The new Duster will be based on a heavily localised CMF-B modular platform, jointly developed by Renault and Nissan. The platform will be present in multiple upcoming models from both the brands. The new car could possibly be a production version of the Dacia Bigster concept. It’ll come with five and seven-seater options, and will compete against Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyryder, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus, etc.
The new CMF-B platform is developed for both efficiency and future applications it might carry, such as the electrification including EVs and hybrid powertrain, and will be compliant to the new and upcoming safety norms.
Triber based MPV
Based on the CMF-A+ platform of the Renault Triber, Nissan will launch an entirely new MPV in India with the intention of boosting sales at its dealerships, which presently only sell the Magnite SUV.
Entry level EV
Based on the CMF-AEV platform, both brands are also thinking about developing a brand-new entry-level EV for the Indian markets. In Latin American countries, the company already provides the Kwid E-Tech electric vehicle.
The Renault-Nissan partnership anticipates that India will be a significant market for both domestic and export sales. The benefits of Renault leaving Russia during the invasion of Ukraine will reflect in India when the previously planned investments are redistributed.
