BS6 compliant versions of BMW G 310 GSand G310R have been spied ahead of their launch in India. The 310 twins are the entry-level offerings from BMW Motorrad India and were much-anticipated motorcycles during their introduction in 2018. However, a higher price tag and expensive after-sales service were not so pleasing for many of our motorcycle enthusiasts. A video has now emerged on YouTube showing the 2020 BMW GS 310 and G310R being ridden on the Indian roads.
The spy shots leaked on the internet indicate that the manufacturer is all set to bring in the updated variants for the market. The motorcycles were found being ridden on the roads by riders without any protective gear rather than a helmet, which gives a hint that they are either being ridden for testing or being transported to another facility. There is a yellow bag on the tank of both bikes though, which could probably be a riding jacket.
Both the bikes appear to be similar to the outgoing models and do not have many visual changes. A slightly redesigned headlamp housing and tank are the only obvious changes. The most important changes should be on the mechanical side. The engine is now BS6 compliant and both the bikes share a 312cc single-cylinder engine co-developed by BMW and TVS. The same engine powers the TVS RR 310.
The recent update of RR 310 had brought in a lot of changes. The 2020 RR310 features a Ride by wire throttle system, four different riding modes, smartphone connectivity, and an updated instrument cluster. We are not sure about the tech that is to be offered on the 310 twins now. The engine for the updated versions would be producing 34 hp at 9700 rpm and 27.3 Nm at 7700 rpm as in the RR310.
The spy shots of the bikes look like they are in the final stages of production and will likely be on the roads real soon. BMW Motorrad India had recently been busy selling the BS4 versions of G310 GS and 310 R at a discount of 70000 INR over the ex-showroom price of Rs 2.99 lakh and Rs 3.49 lakh, respectively. The BMW twins have got stiffer competitions this year, posed by the KTM Adventure 390 and the Duke 390, which offer everything the twins failed to offer for the target audience. We really hope BMW Motorrad will rethink their pricing strategy and launch it with competitive pricing for this year.
