Hero Motocorp And Bharat Petroleum To Set Up EV Charging Stations Pan India

Hero hopes for comprehensive EV infra development through the partnership

Bharat Petroleum, India’s leading Public Sector Undertaking in the fuels and mobility solutions sector has announced its plans of setting up EV charging stations and associated sustainable mobility infrastructure at their outlets. Indian two-wheeler major Hero MotoCorp has partnered with BPCL on this, thereby becoming the first automotive OEM to do so.

BPCL had earlier announced its plans of converting 7,000 of its existing retail outlets into energy stations providing multiple fuels. Setting up of EV charging stations gels in well with this plan. Hero and BPCL will install advanced, tech-driven EV charging equipment at already-operational outlets, and may establish more synergies in the future.

In the first phase, charging stations will be set up in nine major cities starting with Delhi and Bengaluru. The network will be expanded extensively in the coming years. Hero and BPCL hope to have a high-density EV charger network running pan India, in the time ahead. The new charging stations will have multiple charging points of both AC and DC chargers, accessible to all electric two-wheelers. These facilities will be tech driven and operated via Hero MotoCorp’s mobile application.

Electric two wheelers hold the major share of the EV market in India. In the days ahead, these are expected to shoot higher in numbers. Hero MotoCorp has clear EV plans and business strategies for the future, stitched together under their vision “Be the future of mobility”. The manufacturer is already working on a number of all-electric products, the first of which is expected to roll out in March 2022. It is also actively working on improving the EV ownership experience here and making it hassle-free. As part of the same, Hero has lately been setting up battery swapping networks in the country together with Gogoro.
