Kia Sonet Turbo Petrol To Get A Manual Gearbox?

The Sonet turbo petrol currently comes offered with 7DCT and iMT transmissions

Kia had launched the Sonet in India a couple of days back, at an absolutely aggressive price. The introductory price for the Kia Sonet starts at INR 6.71 lakh. The sub-four meter SUV is getting an immense response from the aspirant Indian buyers. Kia had disclosed during the launch that they had gotten over 25000 pre-bookings for the Sonet.

The top of the line GT turbo petrol variant is getting much attention here. Currently, the turbo petrol-powered Sonet comes with two transmission options- a 7-speed DCT and the latest generation 6 iMT. That, however, means that there is no proper manual box on offer with the 1.0 L turbo petrol mill. It seems Kia Motors India preferred the clutchless iMT transmission over the regular manual for the added convenience it offers.

However, recent reports by Autocar India suggest that the carmaker could bring in a proper manual transmission on the car in the future. Manohar Bhatt, head of sales and marketing at Kia Motors has hinted at the chances of the same happening if the market demands. In that case, the GT line turbo petrol would get the familiar 6-speed manual transmission from the diesel. If Kia is to actually introduce the regular manual, we expect it to cost at least INR 20,000 less than the equivalent iMT variant. More fun, fewer bucks spent, hmm…
