BMW R18 Cruiser Debuts In India

Say hello to the BMW R18 cruiser, the new badass in town

BMW Motorrad has made its foray into the Indian cruiser bike arena with the BMW R18. The bike looks butch and menacing. It has the classic big bike proportions and a lot of optional chrome.

The BMW R18 is built on a classical double-cradle frame. The large fuel tank has the shape of a teardrop. The exposed driveshaft and the carefully designed double stripe paint scheme impart a pronounced air of resemblance to the legendary 1936 boxer. The R18 gets all modern day bits like LED headlamps, daytime running lamps, and the familiar BMW heritage face.

The ergonomics on the bike have been so designed as to suit long-distance commutes, never missing the classic cruiser feeling. The footpegs are mounted towards the midpoint of the motorcycle providing for a rather active and upright seating posture.

The R18 cruiser gets the most powerful Boxer engine from BMW yet- a 1802 cc two-cylinder, air/oil-cooled mammoth with a stroke of 100mm. The unit looks massive and churns out 91 hp and 150 Nm. The power figures, however, appears to be a bit tuned down to our eyes, even though we are yet to take it for an actual spin. The entire 150 Nm comes in from 2000 pm, making for a great ride overall. The transmission duties are carried out by a 6-speed unit that has on offer an optional reverse gear as well. The bike weighs around 350 kilos and is no short of an intimidating behemoth.

BMW Motorrad has priced this massive masterpiece of engineering quite wisely. The regular bike is priced at INR 18.90 lakh while the more premium first edition bears a tag of INR 21.90 lakh. There are also a bunch of customization and personalization options available on this cruiser.
