The Fronx will be available with two engine options…

On the second day of the Auto Expo 2023, Maruti Suzuki unveiled a brand new SUV coupe called ‘Fronx’. It is an aerodynamic, sporty, enthusiastic, and youthful crossover vehicle based on the Baleno (previously codenamed YTB). It’ll go on sale by April this year and be sold via the NEXA network. The company has already opened the order books for the Fronx.

Maruti Suzuki Fronx: What Is It?

Maruti Fronx is the maiden compact SUV coupe for the NEXA product line. It’s underpinned by Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform, which is the same as the standard Baleno. It measures 3,995mm in length, 1,765mm in width, and 1,550mm in height. Maruti claims that the Fronx has the longest wheelbase in its segment and best-in-class turning radius.

Design

It features the NextWave front grille and DRL design from the Grand Vitara, split headlight setup, muscular bumpers with dedicated faux skid plates, squared-off wheel arches, rising waistline, chunky roof rails, roof line that declines towards the rear boot lid, and connected LED taillights.

Interior And Features

The interior is reminiscent of the regular Baleno, but there are differences in the trim and shades. The Fronx receives premium Bordeaux panels, high gloss accents, forged metal finishing, etc.

Specifications

The Fronx is offered two options for the powertrain – a 1.0L BoosterJet Turbo-Petrol engine and a 1.2L DualJet Dual VVT engine. The former is good for 100 HP and 147.6Nm of Torque, while the latter generates 90 HP and 113Nm.

The BoosterJet was a very popular, small-capacity turbo-petrol engine, that debuted on the Baleno RS in 2017. However, Maruti Suzuki was later forced to discontinue it due to poor sales and stricter emission standards. Now, it has made a return on the Fronx.

The 1.0L turbo-petrol can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters, whereas the 1.2L engine can be mated to either a 5-speed manual or an AMT automatic. Maruti Fronx will lock horns with the likes of Citroen C3, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Tata Punch in the Indian market.
