Rumor Has It: A Baleno-Based Compact SUV Could Be In The Works!

The new Maruti SUV could rival the popular B SUVs of the day

If rumors are to be believed, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is looking to soon pull off a compact SUV based on the popular Baleno hatchback. According to some reports, the vehicle codenamed ‘YTB’ could either be a crossover or a coupe.

The new vehicle will be based on the popular HEARTECT platform, which underpins multiple Maruti Suzuki models like S-Presso, Celerio, Swift, Baleno, XL6, Wagon R, and Ignis today. Building the YTB on the Baleno platform would help Maruti cut costs significantly.

The manufacturer will place the new SUV below the Brezza in its portfolio. It’d also help Maruti Suzuki position the car well in the already competitive segment, against the Hyundai Venue, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Kia Sonet. The YTB SUV is likely to get a 1.2-liter K12C petrol engine and five-speed manual and AMT transmission.

UPDATE: Maruti Suzuki Will Launch 5 SUVs In The Next 3 Years!

With the Vitara Brezza priced between Rs. 7.61 lakh and Rs. 11.2 lakh (ex-showroom), the price range for the new entrant could be between Rs. 5.25 lakh and Rs. 8 lakh, for it to comfortably sit below it.
