The lineup in the pipeline includes the much anticipated 5 door Jimny too !
India’s top-picked car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki will introduce, across various segments, five SUVs in the next three years, including the highly anticipated 5 door version of Jimny.
Auto Car India, in an exclusive report, broke the news quoting sources from a recently concluded dealer conference. If the reports are to be believed, the Japanese manufacturer will join hands with Toyota to develop one of these models. The Suzuki-Toyota alliance is nothing unfamiliar in modern times.
What’s Coming Your Way?
The proposed model lineup includes a five-door Jimny, two compact SUVs, a midsize SUV, and a three-row SUV based on the Ertiga, which is likely to replace the XL6. The three-row vehicle codenamed Y17 would compete with Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV 700 in the current 7-seater scene.
Envisioning a direct competition to Mahindra Thar and the new Force Gurkha, Maruti Suzuki would bring in a five-door Jimny (not sure when they would launch the 3-door here though!), with a good 300mm increase in the overall length, over the global model. It is likely to get the 1.5L K15B petrol engine, seen in models like the present-day Vitara Brezza and Ertiga.

Codenamed YTA and YTB, the two compact SUVs in the works will be the next-generation Vitara Brezza and a Baleno-based crossover/ coupe. Vitara Brezza (YTA) would be powered by a 1.5L petrol engine, mostly the same as the current model, but with a better Hybrid tech. The Baleno-based crossover (YTB) is also hoped to get an electrified 1.5 L petrol powertrain.
As for the midsize SUV (codenamed YFG), Maruti Suzuki would get it built on the DNGA modular platform of Toyota. Under its hood will be a more advanced 1.5 liter electrified petrol engine. This would, in fact, be a Toyota product that would be manufactured at their Bidadi plant, with both Toyota and Suzuki brandings.
Other than these SUVs, Maruti Suzuki is hoped to launch a heavily updated version of the Baleno and an all-new Alto soon. The former is expected sometime in FEB, 2022 while the latter would debut later next year.
