MG is evaluating the feasibility of MG4’s India launch…
Morris Garages India showcased its global MG4 electric hatchback at the Auto Expo pavilion, alongside several other interesting models. The MG4 hatchback is a born-electric vehicle that made its global debut in July last year. It’s underpinned by parent company SAIC’s Modular Scalable architecture where the battery forms an integral part of the chassis structure. It is 36mm shorter in length and has a 120mm longer wheelbase compared to the ZS EV. It is over 1.8 meters wide and measures just over 1.5 meters in height.
The MG4 features a dynamic design and adopts a few design cues from the MG Cyberster roadster concept. The interior is minimalistic and driver-oriented. The 7.0-inch digital instrument panel and the 10.25-inch central infotainment touchscreen are the eye-grabbers there, both of which are freestanding.
Getting to the feature list, the MG4 packs connected car tech with over-the-air updates, 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, and a whole pack of ADAS features. The ADAS stuff includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot detection, etc.
The EV is available with two options for the battery pack – a 51 kWh unit that’s good for 170HP and a bigger 64 kWh pack that makes 203HP. The torque is rated at 250Nm for both packs, and both come in a single-motor RWD configuration. The 51 kWh pack and the 65 kWh pack offer a WLTP-certified range of 350km and 452km, respectively. The batteries support charging speeds of up to 150 kW.
MG is currently evaluating a launch for the 4 in India, via the CBU or CKD route. The showcasing at the Auto Expo is an attempt to gauge consumer interest. If launched, it could face competition from the likes of BYD Atto 3 and the Hyundai Kona Electric Facelift. Other than this, MG pavilion witnessed the price announcement of the new Hector, and showcasing of interesting models like eHS and MG5 electric estate.
