The vehicle scrapping facility will work towards establishing a circular economy
Tata Motors signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Maharashtra Government to set up a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) in Maharashtra that’d recycle up to 35,000 vehicles a year, for end-of-life passenger and commercial vehicles.
Tata had earlier signed a similar MoU with the Government of Gujarat after the Ministry of Road Transports and Highways announced the setting up of RVSFs across the country. Tata Group will be working with a partner to set up the facility in Maharashtra. Maharashtra industries, Energy, and labor department will support in establishing the RVSF by facilitating necessary approvals.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, at the conference on Investment opportunities in highways, Transport, and Logistics in Mumbai. The facility is hoped to set up a circular economy.
India’s vehicle scrapping policy introduced in the Union Budget 2021-22, looks to phase out unfit vehicles from the roads. As per the policy, personal vehicles will undergo a fitness test after 20 years of purchase in an automated RVSF facility, while for commercial vehicles the test is stipulated after 15 years of purchase.
