Tata Nexon EV Gets Infotainment Upgrades And New Wheels

The Nexon EV now gets the same infotainment setup and alloy wheels as its ICE counterparts.

Earlier this year, Tata Motors had given a notable update to the hot-selling Nexon SUV, wherein it got new alloy wheels and an all-touch infotainment system with no physical controls at all. Now the homegrown carmaker has silently rolled out this update on the Nexon EV as well. The prices, however, stand unaltered post the updates.

The updated infotainment system ditches the physical controls of the previous model. This essentially means everything on the new car needs to be done through touch. There is not even a physical volume control knob. Where these used to exist, now has a ‘Nexon’ lettering. While this may sound fancy to many, it is not always the best practice in terms of ergonomics. The steering-mounted audio controls, however, minimize the adverse effects of this omission on the driver.

Save for the physical controls, the entire infotainment system remains unchanged. The 7 inch touchscreen unit continues to be the same and offers Apple Carplay and Android Auto integrations. Nexon EV also gets the ZConnect Tech, offering 35 connected car features. The equipment list continues to include the likes of automatic climate control, keyless entry and go, hands-free tailgate, semi-digital instrument cluster with analog speedometer and 7 inch TFT, rear AC vents, dual airbags, etc.

The second major update to India’s most popular EV is the new alloy wheel design. If you might remember, the pre-update Nexon EV had a 4-dual spoke (or should we say 8 spoke?) alloy wheel design, which is now replaced by the new 5 spoke design from the updated IC-engined Nexon. The XZ+ and XZ+ LUX variants come with alloy wheels while the others get steel rims, as before.

Nothing else has changed on the design front either. Things like LED DRLs, black body cladding, LED taillamps, signature Blue highlights etc have all been retained.

As you might already know, Nexon EV is based on the advanced ZipTron technology (in fact, the first product for the Ziptron to spawn) and is essentially built on a modified version of the regular Nexon’s platform. It is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor linked to a 30.2 Kwh battery pack. Nexon EV’s powertrain can produce 129 hp and 245 Nm.
