The fourth-generation Skoda Octavia comes as a petrol-only offering
The fourth-generation Skoda Octavia has just been launched in India at a price that not everyone would be comfortable with. The Octavia Mk4 had originally been revealed globally in November 2020. In India, the new sedan is available in two trims- Style and Lauren & Klement (L&K) priced at INR 25.99 and 28.99 lakh respectively (ex. showroom, pan India). While the price as such could be called a tad too ambitious, the new generation Octavia does have its own perks to flaunt!
What’s New In It?
The fourth generation Octavia has grown considerably in size, as it is now underpinned by VW Group’s MQB EVO platform. The same translates to more room on the inside. The design as such, seems to have evolved a lot. The new car has a lighter and cleaner design. Key exterior highlights include bi-LED headlamp cluster, aesthetically appealing signature butterfly grille with chrome surrounds, integrated LED DRLs, 17 inch alloy wheels, neatly drawn split LED tail lamps, coupe-like roofline and the very-VW bit- dynamic LED turn signals!
There are a total of five colour options available on the new Octavia- Lava Blue, Magic Black, Candy White, Brilliant Silver, and Maple Brown. The last two shades are available only on the L&K trim. The Octavia 2021 is 4,689mm long (just 180mm shorter than the Superb), 1829mm wide and 1469 tall.The sedan has a wheelbase of 2680mm and boot capacity of 600 liters (expandable up to 1555 liters by folding the rear row).
Much has changed inside the cabin as well. There is now even more space inside and a bunch of highly desirable equipment as well. The car gets a 10 inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Smartlink compatibility and an innovative touch slider for the volume control. The L&K variant comes with a 600+ Watt 12 speaker Canton premium audio system.
There are two-zone climate control, motorized front seats, 10.25 inch VW virtual cockpit, ambient lighting, electromechanical parking brake, logo projection, roller rear sunblinds and the like to further add to the occupant delight. Missing, however, are things like wireless charger and sunroof. As with every modern-day Skoda, the Octavia also gets a two-spoke design for the steering wheel.
Specifications
The Octavia has become a petrol-only car for 2021 and comes with the 2.0L TSI, four-cylinder petrol engine as its powerplant. Together with the 7 speed DSG, this churns out 187hp and 320Nm. As a first for Skoda, Octavia’s DSG features ‘Shift by wire’ technology. The gear shifter on this car is not a liver, but a tiny rocker! There are of course, paddle shifters for a more engaging drive experience.
The Octavia comes flawlessly equipped in terms of safety features and technologies, has the likes of 8 airbags, ABS, EBD, iBuzz Fatigue Alert, TPMS, AFS, ESC, MBA, MKB, HBA, ASR, EDS, etc
