Maruti Jimny 5 Door Spied During TVC Shoot

Maruti Suzuki will launch the LWB Jimny at Auto Expo 2022

The upcoming Maruti Jimny 5 door version is creating much buzz already. It seems the manufacturer is preparing to debut the SUV in Greater Noida, next month, at Auto Expo 2023. It will make its premiere alongside the Baleno-based YTB crossover. As per reports, Maruti will also showcase a brand new electric SUV concept, the first of its kind from the manufacturer, at the expo.

The first undisguised spy image of the Jimny 5 door has now surfaced online, ahead of its global debut. It was spotted in Leh, in what seems like a TVC shoot. The test mule seems to be going through the final stage of testing. Maruti Suzuki officials have hinted that India could serve as a production hub for the 5 door Jimny, and for both domestic and foreign markets.

Maruti Jimny 5 Door: What It Could Look Like?

The 5-door Jimny is larger than the global spec- which is essentially a short-wheelbase 3-door offering. This new vehicle will have an extended wheelbase, decent-sized rear doors, more extensive side profile, etc. The SUV-esq shape, good-looking body panels, body-coloured door handles, spare wheel mounted on the side-hinged tailgate, etc will be retained from the OG. U-shaped alloy wheels, rectangular ORVMs and large rear quarter glass are also seen on the camo-less test car. The prototype also carried a Jimny badge, and not ‘Gypsy’, as some rumours had previously suggested. The 5-door Maruti Jimny will be 3,850 mm in length and will offer a wheelbase of 2,550 mm- 300 mm longer than the 3-door version.

The 103 PS/ 138 Nm SUV draws its juice from a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, K15B mild-hybrid petrol engine, mated to a five-speed manual and four-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system will also come as standard. Upon its entry, the Jimny 5 door will directly compete against the upcoming 5-door Gurkha and the 5-door Mahindra Thar.
