The Most Underrated V8 Sports Cars

There’s no sound quite like the roar of a V8 engine! When picturing a V8 sports car, Ferraris and Lambos may come to mind. However, there are so many other V8 sports cars out there to choose from. In this post, we’ll take a look at five examples that often get overlooked despite boasting plenty of power, style and character.

Often overshadowed by its Italian cousins, the original 2007 Maserati GranTurismo is a beautiful V8-powered car that combines speed and luxurious comfort. As the name suggests, the GranTurismo was designed for grand tours: it has a surprisingly roomy cabin for a coupe and plush seating to make long-haul road trips more relaxing. At the same time, it’s equally capable on a track – original models are capable of 0 to 60 in 4.8 seconds (modern electric versions provide almost double the acceleration, but you won’t get that V8 growl).

Jaguar F-type

The Most Underrated V8 Sports Cars 2

Jaguar is most known for its iconic E-type, but its successor – the F-type – is also an incredible car. Providing razor-sharp steering and heaps of horsepower (575 hp), the F-type is a thrill to drive. It’s also suitable for everyday driving, handling rough roads surprisingly better than many other luxury sports cars. You can buy a Jaguar approved used car for less than 60k, making it also one of the more V8 supercars on the market.

Lexus LC500

The Most Underrated V8 Sports Cars 3

Lexus has gained a reputation in the luxury car market for being highly reliable, but a little boring. However, models like the LC500 are anything but boring. Debuting in 2017, this car is a mix of luxury and muscle – it has a very sleek exterior and cosy interior, while also rocking a 471 hp 5.0 litre V8 engine and a 10 speed automatic transmission. Hybrid versions can help you save money at the pump, while still having the option of using the V8.

Audi RS7

The Most Underrated V8 Sports Cars 4

The Audi RS7 was launched in 2013, and despite its twin turbo V8 engine, it failed to make a lot of noise at the time of its release. It deserves more limelight as it is a highly impressive supercar, capable of 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 190 mph. Its infotainment system feels modern even by today’s standards, and it comes with sophisticated black leather seating that is also highly comfortable. Some used models are also available for 70k, making it also a steal compared to other used supercars of the same quality.

TVR Chimaera

The Most Underrated V8 Sports Cars 5

A lot of petrolheads may not even be familiar with the Chimaera or TVR. The British roadster style sports car was produced between 1992 and 2003 and has been described as an ‘elegant monster’. Despite being elegantly crafted and only 5000 being produced, you can buy used models for as little as 30k. Its 5.0 litre V8 can deliver a 0 to 60 of 4.5 seconds. Just be wary of the fact that the TVR Chimaera has no ABS or traction control, so requires a bit of skill and bravery to drive at speed.
