Not that many care about Top Gear anymore. Yet we continue to hope that the BBC car show finds its way in the latest season.
BBC Top Gear redefined the way TV car shows were made and marketed. Helmed by the trio of Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond, funded by BBC and created by a stellar production crew, Top Gear is often seen in the list of the most influential TV series ever made. But things have taken a turn – a bad one at that – once the original hosts moved into Amazon Prime’s The Grand Tour series.
BBC Top Gear has since then been struggling to find its footing as it has gone through multiple changes in its hosts, lower viewership ratings, less favourable reviews and most of all, the drop-off of even its most loyal fans. With the upcoming season promising changes and improvement – with another change in the host line-up – we can only keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
The first trailer of its upcoming season has surfaced online featuring Chris Harris alongside his co-hosts comedian Paddy McGuinness and former cricketer Andrew ‘Freddie’ Flintoff. Matt LeBlanc has completely moved out of the show after his 26th season commitments were wrapped up. Rory Reid, on the other hand, has been retained, with his role limited to the spin-off series Extra Gear.
First impressions? The new gang does have decent chemistry and are shown having a blast in the clips – be it the bizarre tests or the bigger adventures. But then again, Rory, LeBlanc, and Harris too had a similar level of camaraderie. The main issue still remains and nothing can be done about that as well. They just aren’t Jezza, Captain Slow and Hamster. But we got to learn to live with that.
