Rebadged Suzukis- Glanza and Urban Cruiser gain more market traction
Toyota has registered combined sales of one lakh units for the Glanza and Urban Cruiser in India. Both the cars are rebadged versions of Maruti’s Baleno and Vitara Brezza. Toyota had launched Glanza in 2019, while the Urban Cruiser was introduced in 2020.
The Glanza is essentially the Maruti Baleno with a Toyota badge. It is manufactured in Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing facility. Around 65,000 units of Glanza have so far been sold in India, and several batches exported to markets like South Africa, where it is sold as Toyota Starlet. Glanza is expected to get a major overhaul with the new Baleno rolling out.
The Urban Cruiser, or the rebadged Brezza, has sold 35,000 units in India. It is expected to get a major makeover as soon after the new Brezza launch, scheduled to happen in the coming months. This year Toyota and Maruti would continue their partnership, with Toyota building Toyota and Maruti versions of a new mid-size SUV. The model will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta.
Maruti is already supplying rebadged Ertiga to Toyota for the South African market, where it is sold as Rumion, and Ciaz, which is sold as Belta. Belta is also known to make its India-debut soon.
