Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD: What We Like About It And What We Don’t!

The Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD finally feels like the truck it should have been from day one. It now has an all-wheel drive (AWD) system and a fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain. It is now the compact pickup truck that America will love to buy and drive arond. It is easier to live with year-round, more capable in bad weather, and still one of the most affordable trucks you can buy out there. Here is everything we love about it and everything that needs to be improved!

What We Like About The Maverick Hybrid AWD

The biggest win here is the AWD tech. All-wheel drive changes how the Maverick Hybrid behaves on the road, especially in bad weather and on tricky surfaces. Power output stays the same at 191 horsepower, but traction is now better. Launches now feel cleaner, especially on wet or loose surfaces. Wheelspins under hard acceleration have reduced as well.

The Maverick Hybrid AWD is also quicker than the front-wheel-drive hybrid. The ute goes from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.0 seconds- noticeably faster than the earlier version.

Handling remains a strong point. The Maverick still drives more like a car than a truck. Steering is light and predictable, body roll is well controlled, and it feels stable at speed. Switch to Sport mode and turn off traction control, and it can be much fun on dirt, ruts, and light snow.

The Maverick Hybrid AWD is more capable off-road than its size suggests. With the right approach and some patience, it can handle trails that would embarrass larger trucks. Ground clearance and tires are the real limits, not the drivetrain itself.

Towing is another surprise. With the available 4K Tow package, towing capacity jumps to 4,000 pounds. Even with a load behind it, the truck stays calm and composed. Tow/Haul mode is well tuned, keeping the engine engaged when needed and improving regenerative braking when you lift off the throttle.

Fuel economy is excellent for a truck.

Ford did not overthink the interior, and that is a good thing. The cabin remains simple, practical, and smartly designed. It gets a larger infotainment system.

There is a lot of storage on offer. There is useful space under the rear seat, door pockets that fit large bottles, and plenty of clever touches that make daily life easier.

What Could Have Been Better?

Some features are still missing on lower trims. Adaptive cruise control is not available unless you move up to higher trims. Lower trims are aimed at value-conscious buyers.

The hybrid system also keeps too much information hidden. Drivers who like to see energy flow and efficiency data will want more detail.

Interior materials are clearly budget-focused. They look fine and wear well, but no one will mistake this for a premium cabin. That may not bother most buyers, but it is worth noting.

All in all, the Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD does not change what the Maverick stands for. It has now improved a lot. If you want a small pickup that can commute, handle bad weather, tow your weekend toys, and still be fuel efficient, this is the Maverick to buy.
