Audi will launch a new electric sports coupe in 2027, effectively bringing back the spirit of the iconic Audi TT. The production model will be based on the recently revealed Audi Concept C, and the CEO says it will reach showrooms within two years. The project highlights Audi’s push to speed up development cycles using what it calls its new “China speed” strategy.

Audi CEO: Production-Spec Concept C To Arrive Soon

The Concept C is more than a design study. Audi has confirmed that it previews a production model that will arrive around 2027.
According to CEO Gernot Döllner, the concept is already part of a serious product program. The car will move from concept stage to production in roughly three years. That timeline is much shorter than traditional Audi development cycles, which usually take four to five years.

The model will also fill an important gap in Audi’s portfolio. After the discontinuation of the TT and the mid-engine Audi R8, the brand currently has no two-door sports car in its global lineup.
Built On Porsche-Developed Electric Platform

The production version of Concept C will be based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture. This platform was jointly developed within the Volkswagen Group and will also underpin the next generation of the Porsche 718 Cayman and Porsche 718 Boxster electric sports cars.
Reports had recently suggested that Porsche’s electric 718 project could face delays or cancellation. However, Döllner reassured staff that the platform’s development is continuing without issues.
He said work on the Concept C is progressing through close collaboration between Porsche and Audi engineering teams.
Designed To Mimic Mid-Engine Handling

While Audi has not revealed detailed specifications, the Concept C will be a fully electric sports coupe. The battery layout is expected to split the cells between the cabin floor and the rear axle. This arrangement helps replicate the weight distribution of a traditional mid-engine sports car.
Such a layout could allow the electric coupe to deliver balanced handling similar to the earlier TT and even the R8, despite lacking a combustion engine.

“China Speed” Development Strategy

Audi says the rapid development timeline is possible due to a new internal strategy called “China speed.” Instead of relying on multiple committees and approval layers, Audi is creating “project houses.” These teams bring together designers, engineers, suppliers, production specialists, and quality experts under a single leadership structure.
The team works directly with top management, which allows faster decision-making. Döllner explained that he now holds spontaneous project meetings with development teams every week to accelerate progress. The goal is to replicate the faster product development cycles commonly seen in the Chinese automotive industry.
A New Chapter For Audi Sports Cars

If everything goes according to plan, Audi’s electric sports coupe will debut around 2027. It will not only replace the TT in spirit but also mark the beginning of a new generation of electric performance cars within the Volkswagen Group ecosystem.
For Audi, the Concept C project is both a technological shift and a strategic move to revive its two-door sports car heritage in the electric era.
