The showcasing is for measuring customer response, no launch plans yet

The biennial automotive show is back and it is already looking like an absolute cracker this year. Hyundai has brought a bunch of immensely interesting vehicles to its pavilion. The market launch of Hyundai Ioniq 5 was among the most anticipated happenings at the pavilion this time. However, getting the heat further up, the Korean manufacturer also showcased the Ioniq 6!

Hyundai India has no intentions of launching the Ioniq 6 in India anytime soon, instead, the display is intended to measure customer interest in the model. The Ioniq 6 made its global premiere in June last year. This is the production version of the Hyundai Prophecy Concept that was shown at the Auto Expo back in 2020.

Ioniq 6 is based on Hyundai’s E-GMP Skateboard Architecture, which also underpins the Kia EV6. The benefits of this platform include support for scalable battery sizes, a flat floor, RWD or AWD configurations, and EV-specific proportions.

The Ioniq 6’s design stays very true to the Prophecy concept, apart from a few changes that were necessary for it to enter production. The overall design is pretty smooth and seamless, with attractive lines and curves. The retro-inspired pixel-style LED DRLs and tail lights, curved shoulder line, voluptuous lines and creases, ducktail rear spoiler, etc. are all carried over from the concept.

The Ioniq 6 is said to have a Drag Coefficient of just 0.21, achieved by applying techniques like flush door handles and placing cameras in place of conventional mirrors. This makes the body as slippery as possible. On the inside, it features a minimalistic design while retaining a deeply futuristic essence to it.

It features dual 12-inch touchscreens-one for the instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment system, a two-spoke design for the steering wheel, screens on both sides to see the visuals captured by the wing mirrors and a completely flat centre console. In dimensions and size, the Ioniq 6 is similar to the BMW i4, which is currently on sale in India.

It is offered with two options for the battery pack – a 53 kWh unit and a larger 77 kWh unit. Comes in a Single Motor RWD configuration as standard with higher variants getting a Dual Motor AWD setup as optional. The former is good for 228HP and 350Nm of Torque, while the latter generates 320HP and 605Nm.

Talking about range, the 53 kWh RWD model offers 453kms on a single charge, while the rear-driven model with the bigger 77.4 kWh pack offers 614kms. The AWD delivers 583kms.
