The IAF aims to equip them with better avionics, radar systems, and weaponry, and thus make them more suited for modern warfare. The IAF is actively pursuing the ‘Super Sukhoi’ program that aims to take the indigenous content in these fighters to over 78%. If things go well, we will see these jets in service beyond 2055.
IAF Will Buy More Aircraft And Helicopters

Along with the Sukhoi 30 upgrades, the IAF has listed several other acquisitions as well. It plans to add Light Combat Aircraft, Light Utility Helicopters, and multirole helicopters to its fleet. The force is also looking to lease mid-air refueler aircraft, which will extend the operational range of its fighter jets.
Additionally, it is set to acquire advanced surveillance and electronic warfare systems. These include Signal Intelligence and Communication Jamming aircraft, as well as Airborne Early Warning and Control aircraft. These additions will help the IAF maintain an edge in modern air combat.

Strengthening Indigenous Defence Production

The Defence Ministry has highlighted the IAF’s commitment to self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Over the last five years, India has invested ₹1,39,596.60 crore in indigenous defence projects. This includes advancements in missile systems, radars, aircraft simulators, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
The IAF is actively pushing for more locally built fighter jets, transport aircraft, helicopters, and weapons systems. With these upgrades and new acquisitions, the Indian Air Force is set to become even more powerful in the years ahead.
