Karnataka Police Force receives mixed responses for adding the Isuzu V Cross pickup trucks to its fleet!
Days after Isuzu India launched the BS6 versions of the D Max V Cross in India, the pickup truck has hit the headlines again. Karnataka police force has added three of these vehicles as its ‘commando vehicles’. The images of these cop cars roaming around the streets of Devangere have received mixed reactions from the public.
The cop-spec V Cross pickup trucks look quite desirable and macho. Finished in black, these get a few additional accessories like bull bars and crash guards along with ‘Police’ decals finished in White. These modified D Max V Cross trucks are part of an ongoing project of Davangere police force and were made by Bengaluru’s ‘Blue Garage’. The key changes to the body include reworked front bumper, bull bars, snorkel, roof rails, and could even get gun mounts in the future. The end product looks butch and brawny and has been turning many heads.
However, there is a second side to this. These three pickup trucks have gathered much criticism as well, as most of the after-market mod-jobs are illegal/ banned in India. Thus, the police force getting these into the fleet is essentially the law enforcement agency breaching its core purpose of existence.
As reported in our previous story, the Isuzu D Max V cross gets minimum upgrades for 2021, other than the engine. The vehicle now comes in three variants, including the newly launched Hi Lander guise. The 2021 D Max is powered by the BS6 compliant version of the 1.9L four-cylinder, diesel engine producing 163hp and 360 Nm. 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic boxes are on offer and the higher-spec variants have 4WD as well. The truck is priced between 16.9 and 24.49 lakh (ex. showroom).
