Mercedes Benz India Sells 2948 Cars In H1, 2020

Mercedes Benz has managed to achieve these figures amidst the ongoing COVID 19 related challenges.

Past the first half of 2020, the overall air has not been so pleasing for the automotive industry as a whole. The ongoing COVID 19 and the associated crises have all shattered vehicle sales like never before. However, the month of June had seen car sales picking up momentum again. Mercedes Benz had had a couple of key launches in H1 2020.

As the official figures suggest, Mercedes Benz India has sold 2948 new cars in H1, 2020. The lion’s share of these sales had come in during June 2020. The Merc sales are being revived, though at a gradual pace. Online sales have had a boom here, keeping the pandemic concerns in mind. Over 8000 leads were generated through online platforms alone in Q2!

SUVs have been among the most selling products in the MB portfolio. Around 57% of the net sales in June were SUVs. Mercedes Benz had launched their flagship SUV- the Mercedes Benz GLS in India recently. Being as luxurious as to be dubbed the ‘S Class of SUVs’ the GLS has been amassing great responses from the customers all around. The GLS constituted around 22% of June 2020 sales. BS6 versions of the C Class, E Class and the GLC have also been key volume drivers for the brand here.

Analyzing the market scenario of H1, we get to find that the overall sales were deeply affected due to the unavailability of BS4 units during the BS6 transition. Mercedes Benz India was among the first few to complete the BS6 transition at the earliest. This has in a way, slowed down their growth as well. However, with the entire portfolio, along with the consumer mindsets, having made themselves successfully into the BS6 era, MB India is expecting more pronounced growth in H2. Mercedes Benz is gearing up for a few more key launches in the coming months…
