The all new Tata safari is available in both 6 seater and 7 seater configurations
Tata Motors has brought back the Safari nameplate in India. As we had told you through our previous stories, Tata Motors has put the Safari badge on the Gravitas, or the 7 Seater Harrier. The Safari 2021 thus becomes the homegrown carmaker’s new flagship.
Much like the Harrier, the new Safari too comes built on the OMEGARC platform, which is derived from Land Rover’s D8 architecture, itself a global benchmark for SUVs worldwide. The new Safari has the same wheelbase as the standard Harrier, but has a decent bump in the overall length, making room for the third row on the inside.
The Safari now follows the Impact 2.0 design philosophy and has the iconic ‘stepped roof’ neatly incoporated into it. The front fascia looks much like the familiar Harrier. However, the signature grille with the iconic Tri-Arrow chrome motif is a newbie.The SUV comes with Xenon HID projector beam headlamps and DRLS that double as turn signal lamps, much like the Harrier. The 2021 Safari rides on 18 inch machine cut alloy wheels.
Changes inside the cabin are notable as well. A few key aspects have been reworked on the inside to set it apart from the 5 seater Tata Harrier. The cabin gets a new Oyster white colour scheme and seats draped with Premium Benecke Kaliko perforated leather finished in the same colour. There is also a signature Ashwood finish on the dashbboard as well.
The third row has been seamlessly integrated into the overall cabin design. There are also a number of creature comforts and an enthusing premium audio system as well. The SUV comes in both the 6 seater and 7 seater configurations. The Safari will have a total of 6 variants in the country.
The Safari 2021 gets the same engine and transmission options as the Harrier- the 2.0 L Kryotec diesel engine mated either to a 6MT or a 6AT. The engine puts out 170hp and 350nm on the Safari, the same way it does on the Harrier. There are three different drive modes on offer as well. The Safari also boasts of ESP, Terrain response modes and many other tech. There will be no AWD on offer upon launch though.
Tata Motors will launch the Safari soon in the country. Bookings for the car will open on February 4, 2021. Upon launch, the Safari will be pitted against the likes of MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV500. the upcoming 7 seater Hyundai Creta and next-gen Mahindra XUV500 will also pose serious competition to the car.
