2021 Tata Tiago NRG Launches With An Introductory Price Of Rs 6.57 Lakh

Tata Tiago NRG gets a few notable visual tweaks and added equipment upon its re-entry in 2021

Tata Motors has launched the 2021 Tiago NRG in India, priced from Rs 6.57 lakh (ex-showroom). The NRG was first launched in 2018 as a crossover based on the Tiago hatchback but was discontinued a year later. The car had, however, found a decent-sized crowd for itself during its extremely short lifespan. 2021 Tiago NRG builds on this success and appeals to the same crowd of cross-hatch lovers. Tata Motors, in fact, hopes to widen the audience with the new car.

Much like its predecessor, 2021 Tiago NRG is based on the top-spec variant of the regular Tiago, and is available in two different variants, where the sole difference lies in the transmission. The NRG with the 5-speed manual transmission has a sticker price of 6.57 lakh, while the automatic version is priced at 7.09 lakh. To be mentioned here is the fact that both these prices are introductory and are expected to rise later this year. The car has already reached Tata Motors showrooms and can now be booked. The deliveries are known to begin soon.

2021 Tata Tiago NRG: Key Highlights

The new Tiago NRG has a bunch of visual upgrades and feature additions to make it stand out from the hatchback counterpart. The overall design looks tougher than that of the regular car. The NRG gets a new front bumper with prominent black touches and a faux skid plate, beefy body cladding, blackened roof, integrated roof rails (which are mere design elements and not functional), reworked rear bumpers, blacked-out C Pillar, and the signature Black rear applique that had been a major highlight of the 2018 NRG as well.

While most of its dimensions stay the same as those of the regular Tiago, the NRG has significantly higher ground clearance than the hatchback. It has a ground clearance of 181 mm against the Tiago’s 170 mm. Also interesting is the fact that this is 1 mm more than that of the pre-facelift NRG! The 15-inch Hyperstyle wheels now get a different design as well. The new Tiago NRG is available in four different colors– Foresta Green, Fire Red, Snow White, and Cloudy Grey.

The cabin gets an all-black theme. The dashboard and seats are all finished in Black. The side air-con vents get contrast Orange surrounds and Metallic Silver finishes. The NRG now gets the new steering wheel and instrument cluster designs from the facelifted Tiago.

Since based on the top-spec Tiago, the NRG comes with decent kit levels. There are a number of modern-day features like Push Button Start/Stop, rear parking camera with adaptive guidelines, auto fold mirrors, defogger, and rear smart wiper, automatic climate control and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system by Harman that gets wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and Speed Dependent Volume Control.

Engine, Gearbox And Other Mechanicals

The new Tiago NRG uses the facelifted Tiago’s BS6 compliant 1.2L Revotron petrol engine in the exact state of tune as the standard car. It produces 86hp (@ 6000 rpm) and 113 Nm (@3300 rpm) on the crossover. Much like the standard Tiago, the NRG also offers the choice of a 5-speed manual and 5 AMT gearboxes. Tata Motors claims to have slightly reworked the suspension of the NRG for boosting its ‘tough-road ability’. The NRG gets disc brakes at the front and rear drums.

Tata’s Vision For The NRG

Tata Motors has been witnessing rocketing acceptance and demand in recent times, particularly in the passenger vehicles segment. Q4 of FY21 had witnessed a 52% hike in the carmaker’s sales numbers. July 2021 had been exceptionally well too. The Nexon is currently the 9th most sold passenger vehicle in India. Tata Motors has also revealed that the major share of its customers are first-time car buyers. This clearly indicates the booming brand image and acceptance that this manufacturer currently enjoys in the country.

By relaunching the Tiago NRG, Tata Motors hopes to appeal to a wider audience, primarily in the high-hatch segment. The manufacturer is targetting the pocket-conscious urban crowd who are in love with crossovers, with the NRG. The product is hoped to widen the scope of the Tiago range. Tata is expecting a minimum of 10% hike in sales with the new NRG on sale.
