The new Toyota Fortuner facelift was launched internationally earlier this year, will go on sale in India by January-2021
The Toyota Fortuner facelift is all set to go on sale in the Indian market by early 2021,a few dealerships have already started to take up bookings, although unofficially. The ‘new’ version comes with prominent changes to the front fascia, including a new front bumper and grille and reworked headlamps to go with it. The alloy wheels also get a new design, other than which the changes are negligible.
The car was spotted testing on the Indian roads earlier. The test car had then had emission testing equipments which drew our attention. Since the outgoing model is already BS6 compliant, emission tests aren’t required, thus we suspect Toyota is planning to bring in a more powerful engine, the same available in the international markets.
Yes, we are talking about the 2.8L 1GD-FTV diesel mill. This inline-4 turbocharged engine churns out 204 PS of peak power and 500 Nm of maximum torque. For the figures, the outgoing 2.8L unit produces 177 PS and 420 Nm of power and torque respectively. Transmission options are expected to remain the same, a 6 speed automatic and a 6-speed manual.
Fortuner is also available with a 2.7L inline-4 naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 166PS and 245Nm of peak power and torque, which will remain the same on the facelift model as well. It can be paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic, both sending power only to the rear wheels. On the other hand diesel model has an AWD option to choose from.
The current model Fortuner retails at Rs. 28.66 to 36.88 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) while the 2021 Fortuner will be priced a notch higher. What do you think about the new Fortuner? Will it be able to take on the likes of Ford Endeavour, Mahindra Alturas G4, and the newly launched MG Gloster?
