Toyota Urban Cruiser Launched In India At INR 8.40 Lakh

The Urban Cruiser is essentially a badge-engineered Vitara Brezza!

Toyota has launched what it calls its ‘youngest SUV’- the Toyota Urban Cruiser. The Urban Cruiser is essentially a badge-engineered Suzuki Vitara Brezza. Toyota has put a tag of INR 8.40 lakh on the entry-spec variant of the SUV. The top-spec variant would cost you INR 11.30 lakh. This cannot be called an aggressive pricing for a car of this sort though.

The Urban Cruiser is the second product that the Maruti Suzuki-Toyota partnership spawns in India after the Baleno-Glanza duo. However, the Urban Cruiser gets more design differentiation from the parent car than what Glanza has from Baleno. The grille design would seem quite familiar to all Toyota aficionados. It also has LED headlamps, DRLs, LED tail lamps, 16 inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, etc to further add to the visual appeal. The interior of the Urban Cruiser gets a dusky brown color scheme as against the all-black cabin of the Brezza. The equipment levels remain unchanged from the donor car.

The Urban Cruiser is powered by the 1.5L four-cylinder K Series engine from Suzuki that gets a mild-hybrid setup as well. This mill is good to let out 104.7 hp and 138 Nm. The available transmission options include the familiar 5MT and 4 AT boxes from Suzuki.

The Toyota Urban Cruiser has been born into a segment prone to fierce competition. Players like Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Ford Ecosport, Mahindra XUV 300 etc are taking the game to whole new levels. Also, soon expected are the arrivals of Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite. Thus it remains to be seen if Toyota could secure a podium in this segment with the Urban Cruiser…
